Volunteers

The SASSC relies on the swim parents (or a representative for the family) to volunteer at our home meets. Each home meet takes approximately 40 volunteers to run smoothly. Below you will find a link to our schedule as well as a short description of each volunteer position. If we cannot find volunteers, positions will be assigned. Each volunteer is expected to find their own replacement.

2012 Volunteer Schedule

Volunteer Opportunities at Home Meets

Stroke Judge- person experienced in recognizing correct/incorrect swim form.  They need to watch every swimmer in every race 9-10 and up.  In addition to form, the stroke judge watches for starts and turns performed correctly.

Starter- person to begin every race, make sure judges, timers & swimmers are ready.

Timers- people who use hand-held stop watches to time individual swimmers.  They also need to record their times and push the back-up button at the completion of each race.

Place Judge- two people to sit at the edge of the pool who record the order swimmers end each race.  They will need to write the event and the place of the swimmers on a card.

Runners- two people who collect event cards from every lane, gather place judge forms, and check with the stroke judge for any disqualification.  The cards will then be given to the people at the computer table.

Sorter- this job entails looking at the event and place judge cards, verifying them with the computer results, and when checked, passing along the paperwork to the ribbon labelers.

Announcer- person who announces first, second and third call for each event, along with other miscellaneous announcements throughout the meet.

Ribbon Workers- sort labels, compare to written event card and label ribbon with appropriate label, then place in proper team basket.

Computer Operators- one person to run the program, and one person to give information to the computer operator.

Colorado Timer System Operator- one person to run the Colorado timing system.

Clerk of Course- people to gather event swimmers and get them to lanes or designated line-up places.  They will distribute cards to younger swimmers or hand them to timers at the lanes.  This job is necessary for 10 and under swimmers, for both home and away meets.

Concessions- donate food items to be sold for the benefit of the SA Summer Swim Club and/or donate time to work at the concession stand during home meets.

Consider Serving on the SASSC Booster Committee

The South Adams Summer Swim Club Booster Committee consists of 8 members:  President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Technical/Set-Up Advisor and Assistant Technical/Set-Up Advisor.  After serving one year as Vice-President, Assistant Treasurer, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Technical/Set-Up Advisor, these individuals will move up to head up their respective duties.

The four new committee members will be voted in at the Post Season Meeting and Awards Picnic.  We need new members that are committed to keeping the SASSC program viable and growing.  If you have any questions, please talk to a current committee member.
